Acts 1 — John Thomas

Times and seasons

by John Thomas

With reference to Acts 1:7—"The Revelation of Saint John the Divine" is a spurious title. The real inscription is contained in the first words of the book -- , Apokalupsis Jesou Christou, REVELATION OF JESUS ANOINTED. The contents of the book did not come to John direct from God. They emanated from Him "who dwells in light," who had hitherto reserved them in his own power (Acts 1:7). Till this emanation they were sealed up, and "known to no man, no not the angels in heaven, NOR THE SON, but the Father" (Mark 13:32). Jesus affirmed this want of knowledge with reference to his apocalypse. "Watch ye therefore," he continued; "for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midniglit, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning; lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping."
